How to remember?

This is one of the easiest Kanji in Japanese and Chinese. The design is very relevant to the meaning. Just imagine that it is an index finger pointing up, as shown in the illustration.

This Kanji has a lot of different pronunciations. But the main ones are "ue" and "jou". Others are used in a very limited number of phrases only. "Agaru" and "noboru" are verbs. When written in Kanji, they are 上がる and 上る respectively.
